New sneak peak of Power Rangers Samurai on nick.com.
Go, watch it now. Do it! Stop reading this post already and go! Quickly!
So the cast of the new super sentai was recently confirmed. Let’s take a look, shall we?
According to the forum sites (image stolen from rangerboard by thieving bloody pirates!), the cast is as follows:
This does seem to be the final confirmed cast, but this is still in the realm of internet rumors. There really is no way of telling until they start to promote the new series. But most everyone agrees that this will be the final official cast. Personally, I can’t wait until the annual press conference to see if this is real.
Now there are still other rumors about the series, but most of them are unconfirmed. The two biggest I think would be the two hundred senshi rumor, and the Go-KaiBlack rumor. Supposedly, there will be a total of two hundred sentai senshi to appear over the course of the series, but most people don’t know who exactly will be featured. Beyond getting past and present cast members to return to do the series, the main issue with this is that, despite the fact that the show will have been around for 35+ years (the 35 years isn’t actually the real number, since the series premiered well before then), there aren’t 200 past senshi, at least if your counting main cast members, so no one knows who the rest will be. And as for the Go-KaiBlack rumors, well there have been possible cast “confirmations” before, but given the sentai‘s current make-up, there probably won’t be a Go-KaiBlack. But there probably will be more than one special senshi given the various team make-ups, and the fact that this series is supposed to be a sentai-equivalent of Kamen Rider Decade.
Well, these are just possibilities at the moment. When anything new pops up, or any other rumors are confirmed, I’ll let you know. In the mean time… hey wait,… where did my… what, HEY… come back here… BLOODY PIRATES!!!

UPDATE: This is infact the new cast, and the first preview premiered this sunday following the newest episode of Goseiger. (12/26/10)
UPDATE: The names of the characters have been confirmed. They are as follows:
UPDATE: There’s a second promo thats been released. It Includes a panning shot of almost every sentai squadron, an individual look at the actors, and a sneak peak of Go-KaiGalleon in action. You can check it out on YouTube, provided you watch it sometime soon.
UPDATE: (1/23/11) There have been some images taken from the Goseiger Vs. Shinkenger movie, specifically from the scene where Go-Kaiger shows up, that shows them in action. Apparently, not only can they each change into previous senshi from past Sentai, but they can each change into ANY of the past warriors, they aren’t restricted to senshi of the same color. And when they change into a past senshi, the personal logo from that sentai appears in front of them. In fact, in that scene, they each change into red senshi from the past five seasons. Gotta tell ya, that just blows the lid off of a lot of the rumors floating around at the moment. For Go-Kaiger pics, check the most recent Go-Kaiger post.
Let me tell you about something funny that happened not to long ago. It involves a series called Kamen Rider, which started in 1971, lasted until 1989, had a period of intermittent attempts to revive the series, and was eventually brought back successfully in 1999, and has managed to last since then.
Recently, they transitioned into a new season, from W to OOO, and just about that time, something horrible happened in the land of the rising sun. The Japanese Entertainment industry won their lawsuit with Google and YouTube, thereby giving them the power to remove videos and other content from websites like YouTube and basically anyone else that pops up on a Google search. That might be fine and dandy with them, but its been a living nightmare for anyone that wants to view their videos online. And this has been especially true for anyone trying to see new episodes of OOO.
And here we have my main problem. You see, for almost anyone that tries to upload anything new from Toei (or anyone else for that matter), the moment YouTube realizes that they’ve done it, they immediately start sending out threats to cancel that person’s account. Even if they don’t, the longest those videos can be held for is about a week before it can be voluntarily deleted. And even then, in some cases you have to edit out portions of the video, like the intro. And forget about subbing videos, they just sit and wait like vultures for subbed videos.
The reason this just outright ticks me off, is because just earlier this year, you could freely move about major websites like YouTube and look up episodes of tokusatsu going back almost forty years, and now you just can’t add anything new without dealing with serious scrutiny. Look, I know there are other sites, other places I can look to find this stuff. I’m even aware of thee numerous websites that provide DDLs and torrents. But this is a matter of convenience. And I don’t understand why that convenience has to be taken away. So Toei and other big production companies haven’t figured out how to make a profit online, that doesn’t mean that they should punish everyone else. Besides, most people aren’t making any profit on these videos when they upload them, nor are they interested in making one. They’re fans who just want to share their obsessions with the world. And you know what, by doing this, by going so far, they undoubtedly hurt themselves in the long run, because there is a larger online foreign fan-base than they think, and without easy access to those videos, that fan-base is just going to shrink, which means a profit loss for them.
Oh well, too bad for them. Maybe they’ll wise up one day. In the mean time, how awesome is OOO?

Ahoy, land lubers! As you’ve seen by now, and probably have heard by now, the following season of Super Sentai coming next year will be called Kaizoku Sentai Go-kaiger (and yes, they’re spelling it this way). Along with all the rumors that have been circulating now, a new promotional poster has been “sailing” from site to site all day.
As you can see, they are really rocking the pirate theme. Its also important to note that this series marks the 35th anniversary of the Super Sentai franchise. I must say that the costumes look great, and its nice to see that they each have both a sword and a gun for side arms instead of one or the other, or some horribly amalgamated gunsword. They also went with the standard team colors of RYBGP, because there had been rumors of a team consisting of a variety of colors rarely used in the Super Sentai world. For general facts (mostly rumors) about the upcoming show:
My main concern iwth this series, though, is the fact that it is themed around a popular subject. Nothing wrong with pirates, but whenever they use a theme that is based off of pop culture reference, they often don’t have an overwhelming success with it. While there are planty of contradictory examples of that, I would like to point out that it has only been in recent times that they’ve run into this problem, and it’s usually because it’s a more Western theme. Its mostly due to the writing, unfortunantly, because its too easy, and too tempting, to fall into a million clichés about the subject. Not to mention the fact that since its following the Decade model, there is that concern of running into the problems that decade had. As long as they can get around these issues, it will be a great series. Even if they can’t, I have a feeling that it will still be a great series.

UPDATE: I’ve added a new Go-Kaiger post which includes the new cast.
It is I, HenshinHead, back from my dimension to tell you a harrowing tale of my adventures. But first I want to tell you a little more about myself. As I said before, I am one of the many (as you would say) toku-style superheroes from my dimension, but I never told you about what I can do. Essentially, I am the ultimate heisei superhero; I have the ability to emulate the appearance and abilities of any other hero from the Tokuverse, and unlike others with the similar abilities (i.e., your world’s fictional KR Decade or AkaRed), I am not limited to a specific group of heroes. I can change into ANYONE or ANYTHING. And because they’re real superheroes and not fictitious creations by corporations, I don’t have to deal with messy copyright laws. This is not to say that I don’t have my own personal powers or abilities, but for right now I want to focus on this.
Now that that’s out of the way, let me tell you about a run in I had with a group of multicolored-spandex-clad superheroes that refered to themselves as Hikaranger. It was like any other typical day when monsters rampage through the city, it started off bright and sunny. And then an ominous overcast swept in. From what seemed to be out of nowhere, some alien monster thing appeared surrounded by a group of minions. He stood there yammering on about the great empire they belonged to and how they were going to take over the world. You know, the usual. Anyway, he was suddenly interrupted by your typical squadron of five multicolored superheroes. They called out the alien monster thing, declared that he/it would never win, and introduced themselves as Hikaranger. And after some back-and-forth between them, the fighting began. The fighting went the way you normally expect, the leader of the group went after the alien monster while the rest dealt with the cannon fodder. Watching the fight, anyone could tell that they were rookies, they were just all over the place and getting beat up allot. But they were able to deal with the underlings, leaving the alien monster to fend for himself, and he would not go down easy.
They fought the guy for a good deal of time, but at every turn he was able to subvert their attacks. But the fight eventually led to the point where they pull out the finisher and end the fight (at least until the giant robot fight). Then something went horribly wrong. They brought out the giant cannon, fired a massive laser beam at the alien monster, there was a large explosion, but he survived. So there they are, their trump card used, them falling to their knees in defeat, and all hope seems lost. That’s when I decide to step in.
Just as the alien monster is about to deal the final blow, I block his attack and send it back to him. While he’s off-balanced, I look back to the Hikarangers and give them a modest motivational speech. It was enough to recharge their spirits, and they got up to finish off the alien monster thing. They pull their giant laser cannon back out, and using my abilities I created a mimic of their cannon out of thin air. We fired at the alien monster, and he went down. But as these battles usually go, he didn’t stay down that long.
As soon as turn away from the explosion, he’s back up on his feet and is now thirty stories taller than he originally was. I didn’t think it was going to be that much of an issue, happens all the time. But when I turn around to ask them if they still needed my help, that’s when I find out that they don’t have any special equipment to handle this. So here I am with the one Sentai on the planet that doesn’t have a giant robot, or even an oversized tank, and there is now a GIANT alien monster thing rampaging through downtown. Luckily, it wasn’t anything that I couldn’t handle. With my abilities, I was able to change my form and take on the powers and appearance of an Ultrabeing (that’s what their called in the Tokuverse). We fought, we tussled for a bit, shot a few energy beams back and forth, and then I finished him with an T-Beam strike (they cross their arms completely over here, and I just don’t want me quantum twin to be sued by anyone).
With the fighting done, I returned to my original form and went back to talk to the Hikarangers. They thanked me for helping them at the last minute, and I gave them a few words of encouragement and some advice for the next time they’re called on to fight evil. And we went on our separate ways. Personally, I’m going to keep my eye on them. They’re young and still raw, but they have a lot of potential, and I’d like to see where they go from here.
That’s it for now. I must return to the Tokuverse. Until next time!
