Saban Brands Official Announcement: No, it’s not for free morpher day, but it’s just as awesome!

First off, let me say that I have to give so much credit to Saban, they really know how to put on a show. And now for the bit you actually came to see:

Led by the Samurai Rangers, all the past generations of Power Rangers came together for one very big reunion in Las Vegas! Hell of a family reunion, huh? Pictured here with Haim Saban (right) and Saban Brands President Elie Dekel (left), they appeared at the Saban Brands Booth at this year’s International Licensing Expo. This reunion is to commemorate the Netflix announcement that I mentioned earlier. For those of you who haven’t seen that post, it will be here. They were apparently so excited about it that they brought in two Yellow Wild Force Rangers (look at the center, then go just a little to the right, you see it now?).

Here’s all the Rangers do some sort of dance together. And is it just me, or does the Red Mystic Ranger look more like Kamen Rider Accel at the moment?

And here’s everybody taking the escalator down to the the floor the Expo is on. Would not want to be at the end of that line. 😛

Anywho, that’s it as far as the expo was concerned (for now), Saban really does know how to put on a show. If anything else pops up, I’ll be sure to let you know.

Yu-Gi-Oh! Sets Guinness World Record: Is it for most increasingly difficult game?

Yes, I know, this is a toku blog (the Ultimate Toku Blog. EVER. 😉 to be precise), but in 1999, like everyone else in the US, I just got completely sucked into this. But this bit of news still surprised me enough to blog about it myself.

With a new set of cards being released in lieu of the premiere of Yu-Gi-Oh Zexal in Japan (nothing confirmed yet, but I know it will eventually be released in the US) game developer Konami announced that the Guinness Book of World Records has recognized the iconic card game as the best-selling trading card game. The Yu-Gi-Oh! Trading Card Game has sold over 25,175,567,833 cards to date, beating their own previous record of 22,587,728,173 cards set back in 2009.

There’s the really small pic of the certificate from Guinness World Records.

Kazuki Takahashi created the original manga from 1996 to 2004, which has spawned ongoing anime series for which new cards are constantly produced. The card game first shipped to the US in 1999, and has since spread to over 45 countries worldwide. Konami actually first applied for the record back in 2006, when “only” 15.8 billion cards had been sold. And I’m sure that there are plenty of you out there (myself included) that helped to contribute to these overwhelmingly massive numbers. Congratulations Yu-Gi-Oh! and Konami!

Go-Kaiger Goseiger Movie No.2 at Japan Box Office: Other pirates stole our thunder (Bloody pirates!).

As expected, Go-Kaiger Goseiger Super Sentai Hero 199 Battle has taken the No.2 Box Office slot in Japan in it’s opening week. The movie attracted about 249,077 people, and brought in a total of 288,610,400 Yen (3.6 Million USD). It wasn’t able to overtake the current No.1, “Pirates of the Caribbean 4: On Stranger Tides”, which has been in the No.1 slot for the last four weeks. It’s alright, they’ll get them next time!

Power Rangers on Netflix: Live-streaming the Power!

HUGE EPIC news from out today. Starting June 15th (hey, that’s tommorow) the ENTIRE collection of Power Rangers episodes, from MMPR to RPM, will be available for instant streaming from Netflix! Not only that, they will also have episodes of VR Troopers and Beetleborgs available as well. This is huge massive news. This is the first time EVER that they’ve done anything even remotely like this. To have all of this content in one place, and to have it in a digital medium as well, I’m just speechless. If you’ll excuse me, I need to sign up for Netflix.

UPDATE: (6/15/11) Saban recently stated as a responce on their Twitter feed that they will also be releasing DVDs soon, along with the Netflix releases. And I’m pretty sure they mean more than just some dinky dvd with three to five episodes on it. These announcements can’t possibly get any bigger!

Upcoming RangreKey Sets: Hooray Gashapon!

Here are some more upcoming RangerKey sets from Gashapon. Boy, can they keep up with the show or what?:

(Hey look, it’s an actual post!) So they are releasing a bunch of new RangerKeys soon, including RangerKeys for other team members, Sixth Senshi, and Extra Senshi. So if you really want to collect RangerKeys, I would suggest sticking with Gashapon. It’s the only way to guarantee getting an entire set, since Bandai seems to be preoccupied with Red RangerKeys.
