Power Ranger Samurai News: No.1, Origins, and Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade!

Okay, so as you all should know by now, Saban Brands was at the International Licensing Expo almost two weeks ago, where they had the Ranger Flash Mob and the MASSIVE (figurative and literal) Netflix announcement. But according to Licensing Book, that;s far from the only thing they talked about at the expo.

According to their article, PRS has become the No.1 kids action series on TV! Here’s how they put it:

“The latest generation of the legendary Power Rangers is a proven hit with Power Rangers Samurai becoming the No. 1 kids action series, ranking No. 1 in its timeslot across all of TV with boys 2-11, boys 6-11, and kids 2-11. The series premiered on Nickelodeon in February and since its launch has maintained its No. 1 rank, outperforming its competition by double and triple digits.”

Double AND triple digits. How do you like them apples? In fact, the series has done so well, that it’s currently being licensed and broadcast by numerous other groups around the globe. This includes: Brazil’s Grupo Banderiantes de Comunicação, Mexico’s Grupo Televisa, France’s Canal J and Gulli, and Canada’s YTV and Teletoon. And thanks to the multiterritory agreement with Nickelodeon, PRS is being seen in key territories in Western Europe, Latin America, and the Pacific Rim (namely Australia and New Zealand). So basically, PRS is being seen on four of the world’s major continents. I would definitely call that a major success.

And the news just keeps getting better. In November, we will finally get to see the origin story of our heroes! Or as they put it:

“Additionally, fans will have the chance to experience the never-before-seen story of how the newest generation of Power Rangers came together in an all-new Power Rangers Samurai Origins special, which will air on Nickelodeon in September. The special takes viewers inside the dojo where the new Rangers received their martial arts training prior to their first adventures battling evil as a team.”

FINALLY!!! Why tease us this way, Saban? Not like we didn’t know the footage was there.

The article also mentioned their upcoming appearance at this year’s Comic-Con in San Diego. Basically, they will have their own panel, all six of the Rangers will be their, and Paul Shierer (Bulk) will moderate. And for those interested, they are currently holding the Power Con contest, details here.

And finally, it looks like the Samurai Rangers will be making a second appearance at the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade! They will be part of the lineup for the 85th Annual Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade, and will be escorting the giant world balloon again. This year, the parade will be broadcasted by NBC (when is it not?) on Thursday, November 24th, from 9a.m. to 12p.m., across all timezones. Luckily, I live in the EST time zone, so I’ll be one of the first to see it! Hopefully, they’ll get more than a couple of minutes of airtime this year! 😛

That’s it for now, at least that’s all that was in the article, I’ll be posting an opinion piece on the direction PRS and the overall Power Rangers series is going, so be on the lookout for that. As always, if I come across anything else, I’ll let you know.

New Date Akira BM figure: Oh, will you stop giggling?!

So, it looks like Date has his own BM figure now, though it seems a little late since he stopped being Birth about two weeks ago. But it is still a very cool, very lifelike figure. Even actor Iwanaga Hiroaki, who played Date Akira/Kamen Rider Birth, was very pleased by the way it turned out. Let’s take a look, shall we?:

It’s almost creepy to look at. Anyway, this figure comes with Date in his signature look, the BirthDriver, the BirthBuster, his “milk can” full of cell medals, and interchangeable hands.

“I’m gonna make, ‘this much’, in sales!”

And here is Iwanaga with the Date figure. I’m guessing that he’s very pleased with the results. Who would want so see themselves in action figure form?

Mediacom’s Project BM Date Akira is set for release February 2012, with the pricetag of 18,690 yen.

While this is just fantastic, you’ll save a lot more money just getting the standard Birth figure. I’ll let the hardcore collectors rush out to get this.

Go-Kaiger and OOO Previews: Finally, what we really want!

Sorry I can’t bring you the full episodes, but here are the previews for next week’s!

Will Don be able to accept Gai? Will Gai finally use his Gold Mode? And will Ankh be absorbed by Lost Ankh?! Tune in next week to find out!

Super Robot Chogokin Go-KaiOh: It’s big, it’s shiny, and it puts on it’s own hat!

The second Sentai mecha to be released under the Super Robot Chogokin line, it’s Super Robot Chogokin Go-KaiOh!

This marvelous figure comes with two Go-Kai Ken swords, attachable Go-Kai Hou chest cannon, and effects parts for the Go-Kai Starburst finisher.

No word yet on whether or not this figure will have other attachable figures to go with it (i.e., Go-KaiMachines and Legend Machines). The last figure, Super Robot Chogokin ShinkenOh, didn’t get any additional figures or attachments until very recently, so I wouldn’t expect any right away.

Super Robot Chogokin Go-KaiOh will be released this October for 4800 yen (about $60 USD).

Super Sentai 199 Hero TV Special: YES!

Just came across this tv special for Go-Kaiger Goseiger Super Sentai 199 Hero Battle, thought you might want to watch it too. It’s basically an extended preview of the movie, but it does have a lot of info and background on the movie, and it covers past series as well. Check them out right here:

Part 1: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K_BVr40uwi8&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

Part 2: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=O112ezEXKQc&feature=mfu_in_order&list=UL

I would’ve have embedded the video itself, but the share button doesn’t want to work. 😛

Anyway, it is a good special, you get to see a lot of the movie, and get a little insight into the background. This is the longest Sentai movie made yet, so I don’t think there will be too many spoilers. And it debuted at No.2 in it’s first weekend at the box office, so that should say something in regards to the movie itself.
