Saban’s Power Rider Rumor: Switch on to American audiences?

Some new rumors about Saban’s “Power Rider” has popped up on a french toku site, and the gist of it says that Power Rider will be a new attempt at adapting the Kamen Rider franchise, that Saban will try to take the previous adaptations (Masked Rider, Adness’ Kamen Rider Dragon Knight) and bundle them with this new adaptation as being part of it’s time line. That, however, is not what’s been getting the most attention from this rumor. No, it’s the assertion that the series they plan on adapting for this newest attempt is Kamen Rider Fourze!

And I just have to call bullsh*t on this rumor now. First off, it’s from the same people that tried to convince everyone that Gai was going to be killed off by the end of Go-Kaiger (and yes, I still believe that there’s nothing to that rumor). Second, Fourze JUST STARTED! You can’t plan an adaption around a series still in development. Third, the registration for the website happened over a month before the first confirmed rumors about Fourze even came out. And finally, it just wouldn’t make sense to start with Fourze. Supposedly, they have the material from the Shinkenger/Decade crossover special, so what’s not to assume that they don’t have the entire Decade series? If they are adapting, I have a feeling it would be from Kamen Rider Decade, if for any other reason than that they appear in an episode of Shinkenger. You just can’t jump into a series like Fourze and expect people to rush out and get every toy available for it, you have to gradually build up to the point where that will happen, and in order to do that, you’d have to start with a series that doesn’t have that much merchandise associated with it. Therefore, you have to start with a series like Decade, where the biggest chunk of it’s toy sales come from peripheries not associated directly with the Decade character. And it will give Saban a reason to introduce Ganbaride to the US. And that’s what I think is going to end up happening should they go through with it.

Alright, you’ve seen the rumor, and read my opinion of it. So what do you think will happen? Is this real, or a lot of phoney baloney? And if they do adapt a series, is there any series in particular you’d like to see adapted by Saban?

  1. Well it’s fall 2012 and still no sign of Power Rider. Fourze is all wrapped up now so it’s not to late for a Fourze adaption to hit screens in Spring 2013! But more realisticly it’ll probably be Decade, or depending when production began, W or OOO. which I guess I’d be OK with too.

    1. Well, I’m not sure about any of it at this point. I might not be keeping up with the news all that well anymore (just too much other stuff on my plate), but I haven’t heard a single thing about it since I posted this story. I guess if they decided anything, it was just to NOT do anything, at least for now. I’m sure someone somewhere will try to adapt the series again, just too much potential to let it slip by, I’m just not sure if it’ll be anytime soon. However, if Toei is really in the process of bringing back the Metal Heros franchise (via the new Gavan movie), I really hope that Saban would try another attempt at adapting the Metal Heroes. Perhaps this new Gavan might end up becoming the new VR Trooper!
