Ultraman Saga News and Rumors: Zero likes playing host to Dyna and Cosmos. :P

Hey, a lot of new info on the upcoming movie Ultraman Saga popped up at the end of last week, which includes a new host for Ultraman Zero, and the return of the human hosts for Dyna and Cosmos. Looks like Tsuburaya’s got their hat in the ring this winter!

First up, a look at the new host for Zero:

Zero’s last host was Ran from the movie Belial’s Galactic Empire. But for this movie, his new host will be Taiga Nozomu, the newest member of the Super GUTS team. He will be played by singer-songwriter DAIGO, from the band BREAKERZ. Taiga will be able to transform into Zero with the new Zero Brace, which will later be used as the Saga Brace when he transforms into Ultraman Saga.

In this movie, Taiga is a rookie member of the Super GUTS team who is also a talented pilot. After desperately protecting a child in danger and sustaining a serious injury, he is chosen be Zero to be his new host,  resulting in the birth of a new hero.

Co-staring with DAIGO will be Tsurono Takeshi and Sugiura Taiyo, reprising their roles as Asuka Shin/Dyna and Haruno Musashi/Cosmos.

The story deals with a mysterious race of beings that take over the Earth. It’s up to the combined efforts of Zero, Dyna, and Cosmos to take on this new foe and bring back peace to the world.

There was also a new trailor that was released for the movie, but unfortunately I have not been able to find a copy that was available outside of Japan (or at most East-South East Asia).

The movie premieres March 24th, 2012.

Kamen Rider Movie Wars MEGAMAX New Movie Poster and Rumors.

Hey look! More old news! A new movie poster for the upcoming movie Kamen Rider x Kamen Rider Fourze & OOO Movie Wars MEGAMAX is out, and we have a new plot summary for the movie as well. So let’s get to it.

First off, here’s the new poster:

This time, all of the Riders that appear in the movie are featured, including W, Nadeshiko, Aqua, and the Legendary Seven.

And now we move onto the new plot summary, this one coming from the OCN Animation Blog. It verifies that the movie will be divided into five parts, with OOO, Fourze, and even W getting their own chapters. Here’s the new story:

Chapter 1: Beginning
Meteorites fell from space all over the world. Stuck to those meteorites is a mysterious substance called SOLU. These 7 Riders get into a fierce competition with Foundation X over it. However, the SOLU fell into Foundation X’s hands. The dreadful project they’re advancing is…?

Chapter 2: Kamen Rider OOO
From a distortion in time caused by the meteorites, the present world has become connected with the world 40 years into our future. Kamen Rider Poseidon comes from the future carrying the future’s Core Medals. Since Poseidon likes to fight more than anything else, he aims to defeat our present Riders OOO and Birth. He targets Eiji Hino (OOO), who has recently come home from his journey. But when that happens–who appears but Ankh, who disappeared during the previous battles.

Chapter 3: Futo – The Secret Plot Advances
Shotaro Hidari encounters Foundation X in Futo and begins to investigate their plans. On the other hand, the 7 Riders find the location of Foundation X’s secret airport and corner its leader, Remu Kannagi. However, Foundation X laid a trap the Riders couldn’t predict. The 7 Riders are in danger! And Foundation X’s plot is coming closer and closer to fruition…!

Chapter 4: Kamen Rider Fourze
Amanogawa High School is full of people for the Culture Festival. Then suddenly, a cute girl fell from the sky. Gentaro Kisaragi falls in love with that girl, Nadeshiko Misaki, but for some reason the Zodiarts are after her. To protect her, he transforms into Kamen Rider Fourze, but she surprisingly transforms into Kamen Rider Nadeshiko. Exactly what is her true identity? In truth, Nadeshiko is one link in this big chain of events, and has a big secret.

Chapter 5: Movie Wars MEGAMAX
Fourze, OOO and Double were chasing the same enemy. When the full scope of the enemy’s plans comes to light, the Riders join forces to protect world peace. However, before the Riders appears a large army of Zodiarts, Greeed and Dopants. Fourze and the other Riders are attacked by this army and end up in trouble. Is there a chance to turn the tables? Fight, our heroes! Gather here, legendary warriors!

Whoa, looks like it’s gonna be another big rumble! Do our heroes have what it takes to stop Foundation X in it’s tracks?! We’ll just have to find out when the movie debuts in December (or when the movie comes out on Blu-Ray/DVD release six months later).

Toku is our path to the future: Soldiers build a Robot with Robots to create the perfect machine.

One of the most popular themes in sci-fi, and one of the most prominent in Japanese sci-fi, is the idea of creating a robot by combining other robots together. It’s a theme followers of this blog should be very familiar with, since we’re dedicated to particular TV series that has heavily featured robots and combining robots since ’78 (or ’93 for those of you not in the know). However, the idea up until this point has been just science fiction, just something entertaining to watch while transitioning to the giant robot fight scene. But now, US soldiers at Fort Benning are starting to make that a reality.

Members of the Army Expeditionary Warrior Experiment at Fort Benning have bypassed the robotics firms all together and have been using that army sense of improvisation to make their own robots, and their doing it by combining the capabilities of different robots and combining them into one. How you ask? By physically combining the robots to each other to create the ultimate machine!

In particular, they mounted a TiaLinx Cougar 10 (a surveilance robot that uses radio frequency sensors to detect eve the tiniest sounds from behind a wall) onto the back of a faster and stronger Lockheed Martin Squad Mission Support System, or SMSS (a load-bearing unmanned ground vehicle capable of carrying up to 600 pounds) to create a surveilance vehichle that was fast enough to clear through an urban area while sensitive enough to pick up on any possible threats. And for that intended purpose, this combination worked perfectly.

And this success does mean a lot. While this combination might not be perfect in all situations (the SMSS’s engines make it too loud for stealth missions), this does say a lot about that army DIY ingenuitey, and has implications for the future of modular robotics.

If this continues, we could see something like this someday:

Okay, it’ll probably look more like this (at first):

One step at a time, right?

I’d like to give a hand to James Pailly over at Pailly Planet for bringing this article to light.

The next scientific innovation I want to see: Real-life morphers/henshin devices. Make it happen scientists!

The truth behind the female Red Ranger: She’s his Sister? O.o

Okay, so we all know that New Zealand native Kimberly Crossman (pictured below) was cast as the role of the female Red Ranger, or the Princess. Now, what we didn’t know so far was what exactly that role would be. Well, it looks like we may finally have our answer.

In a recent RRR podcast, they posted a link to Crossman’s filmography, and according to that, her role in Power Rangers Samurai was “Red Ranger’s Sister”! (Also, there were way better pictures of her than the one shown here).

So, is this their spin on the whole “true lord” story line? Will she be playing a modified version of the Hikoma role from Shinkenger, or is this a new role created for PRS? I guess we’ll find out next season when she debuts on Power Rangers Super Samurai!

Power Rangers 2013 Casting Postponed!: So what are we gonna do, Saban?

Major shocking news (that came out two days ago)! It looks like Saban has postoned casting for the next Power Rangers series (which will be in 2013), because they plan on doing something major. Check out this letter from Iris Hampton (casting director for Power Rangers) that was sent out to casting agencies:

POWER RANGERS (Memo from Iris Hampton)
Non-Union Episodic

Dear all agents who participated in the Power Ranger casting process,

We want to express our sincere thanks to your clients who recently auditioned for Power Rangers’ 2013 season and provide you with a quick update. Since we will be celebrating our 20th anniversary season in 2013, we have decided to elevate the season’s creative to entirely new heights. This will require us to commence production in 2012 rather than 2011. We hope that the great talent we met during our recent auditions will still be available when we recommence casting and promise that you will be the first to know when that will occur. At this time, we plan to resume the casting process March to early April 2012.

With kind regards and respect,

Iris Hampton
Power Ranger Casting Director

So, what does all this mean? I’m not sure. Some people think this is an indication that they’re skipping ahead to Go-Kaiger, others think they might just be trying to do something new with the Goseiger footage. Either way, they’ve got big plans, and those of you that may have missed the previous casting session could have a second chance next March/April.

And this is just a side note, but one of the big problems with skipping to Go-Kaiger will be accounting for the 15 other Sentais that came out before (or in the cases of Dairanger and Goseiger, before and after) Power Rangers. Check back in later to see my proposal for what Saban could do to correct that.
