Go-Kaiger Ep.29 Raw and Ep.30 preview: Abare Live!

Well, here it is! Ep.29 (raw) of Kaizoku Sentai Go-Kaiger! This week, we deal with an Action Commander who steals wedding day bliss from newlywed brides, and he manages to do a good deal of damage Go-KaiOh, forcing Ahim and Gai to seek him out on their own, and boy, do they get in some odd situations! And it’s also the Abaranger tribute episode, which features Yukito/AbareBlue with wife Emiri, the self proclaimed “AbarePink”. Enough yappin’, let’s get to the good part!:

And here’s a preview for next week’s episode, Ep.30 “The Friend’s Soul”, which happens to be the Liveman tribute episode:

Enjoy!

Go-Kaiger Mega-Post: Catching up on some slippery Pirates!

For those of you that happen to read other blogs, you know that I have gotten very far behind on catching up with the latest news about everything and anything. Well, to make up for that, I’m going to post EVERYTHING I’ve found Go-Kaiger-related in one super-sized Mega-Post! Expect lengthy descriptions and oodles of pics from this point on.

Starting with the oldest stories first, we have an interview with Wakamatsu Toshihide, who plays Yuki Gai/Black Condor, originally in Jetman but most recently in the newest episode of Go-Kaiger, talking about how writer Inoue Toshiki talked him into taking up his old role for this new series (note: this was translated from a Japanese magazine interview, I had nothing to do with the translating, so don’t complain to me about inproper English) :

I got phone call from Toshiki Inoue in the very early morning… well as is usual for him (laugh). He said “I’ll write script so appear on Gokaiger as Gai Yuki”. I’ve heard about “Gokaiger” so I knew what he told about, but I couldn’t believe what he said, because Gai already passed away.

The story of Gai’s death in Jetman was made mainly by Inoue and me at a meeting where we drank much(laugh). So I was against Gai’s being alive and I told so. Then he said “I understand you. Believe in me. If you don’t appear, I will never write.” So I replied to him with saying “I’ll leave everything to you.”

After reading the script, I called Inoue and heard him saying “It’s nice story for you isn’t it?” (laugh) I myself thought I’m too outstanding well in the story so I felt a kind of guilty for being a leading character in Gokaiger. At the same time I felt Inoue’s having a special place in his heart for Gai.

At the point I received the offer I called Hirofumi Ishigaki, Action Director in Gokaiger. He acted Yellow Owl in Jetman. I asked him if it’s possible to make Mr. Ohfuji act Brack Condor.

When I was in fitting session, I got welcome news. Mr. Nakazawa, the director said Ohfuji accepted the offer of Black Condor. Other staffs also thought that Black Condor must be acted by Ohfuji. That’s my great pleasure.

To answer your first question, Mr. Ohfuji is the original suit actor for Black Condor, so that makes the performance of Black Condor in battle that much more authentic. Which makes it that much cooler overall.

Next up, we have an official announcement for a new Go-Kaiger game from Namco Bandai, this time for the Nintendo DS, entitled Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger: Atsumete Henshin! 35 Sentai!

The game’s genre is “Narikiri Treasure Hunting”, and you do just that. Basically, you go around the world finding, collecting, and using RangerKeys in battle. Each level has it’s own RangerKey, and along the way you have to fight Zangyack and collect the RangerKey on the map as soon as possible. The game also uses the stylus, making battles that much more simpler. The game will be released November 17th for 5040 yen.

I know it’s only been two console games so far, but that’s actually quite a lot in such a short span of time, amd whe you include other non-console games, then that number really jumps up.

Speaking of which, Namco Bandai has also announced a new app game for Go-Kaiger, called Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger ~ Let’s GokaiGalleon ~!

In this new game, you can play as Go-KaiGalleon, fighting against Zangyack spaceships. You even have the ability to play as Go-KaiOh!

Here’s the official iTunes description:

Kaizoku Sentai Gokaiger comes to iPhone! Blast away meteoroids and enemy spacecraft that threaten the Gokai Galleon on its voyage towards Earth! Control the action with simple taps and flicks as you feverishly try to earn your best score!

Controls: Lock on to enemies on the screen by tapping them. You can lock on to multiple enemies at the same time. Next, flick the screen to attack all the enemies you are locked on to simultaneously! Tilt the device left and right to dodge enemy attacks.

Hints: Multiply your score locking on to multiple enemies and defeating them all at once. Pirate marks pile up on the lower left side of the screen, according to the number of enemies defeated at once. Once you have eight marks, you can transform into Gokaioh. You are invincible while transformed, giving you the opportunity to boost your score even more!

Sounds simple and easy to play, and it’s only 170 yen. It’s available for iPhone 3GS & 4, and iPod Touch 3 and up. You’ll need a Japanese iTunes account to purchase it, but luckily for you, Jefusion happens to have a post on how to set up one.

Next we have some interesting info on a “discarded” background story for Don Dogoier/Hakase/Go-KaiGreen. It comes from an interview with Go-Kaiger lead wirter Arakawa Naruhisa by Hyper Hobby magazine. Here’s one background story they considered for the good doctor:

(Arakawa) “Don would be a scared boy who saw his scientist father die in a laboratory after the Zangyack attacked and started a fire, leaving him traumatized.” In addition, Arakawa said that he wouldn’t be “a special person like Ahim”, that he doesn’t come from some high rank in society, that he is just an average person (comparitively speaking).

Well, I’m not sure if some version of this story is used, but it would explain a lot about him. What do you think about it?

Anyway, let’s move on to some showroom toy pics featuring Go-KaiMachine Machalcon and the Go-KaiGalleon Buster:

This is the next Go-KaiMachine, Engine Machalcon. He is the Go-Onger‘s Grand power, and as you can see below, he can be used to combine Go-KaiOh and Go-JyuJin into a single combined mecha!

And here we (finally) have Go-Kaiger‘s cannon weapon, the Go-KaiGalloen Buster. As you can see, it works like other cannon weapons, where everybody puts their RangerKeys in and KABOOM! Freshly toasted Zangyack.

Wait, what’s that at the top?

Hmm, it’s talking about glowing 7 different LED light colors, which every weapon toy does, but it’s also showing seven RangerKeys, including a blacked-out one over the purple circle. Could this possibly be a new Go-Kaiger? I guess we’ll just have to wait and see.

And finally, we have the screen shots from the newest episode of Go-Kaiger! Check out Black Condor’s return:

New Super Hero Time!

And next week:

There. now we’re all completely caught up on all things Go-Kaiger. If anything else comes up, I;m putting it in a new post. 😛

Go-Kaiger Episode Summaries: And now we’re up to FOUR Tribute Episodes for Spetember!

Wow, somehow they just keep adding up! The newest episode summaries have come in, and it looks like there’s going to be four tribute episodes in September. That’s just a solid month of back-to-back tribute episodes. I guess since we’re about halfway through the story already (even though it still doesn’t feel like it), we’re starting to move into a period where they’ll be focused more on getting these tribute episodes out of the way and collecting the remaining Grand Powers. I let you judge for yourselves from these episode summaries:

Episode 28: Wings are Eternal – 9/4
“Mera Mera~ to Hi no Tori Jyaaku na Teki wo Uchitaosu (Burning Burning~The Phoenix will defeat the evil enemy) !”
Gai helps the Pirates to interpret Navi’s prediction. Accordingly, they start searching for Jetman, when a man on a motorcycle appears before them and steals Joe’s Mobirates. The man is Black Condor, and he tells them to stop looking for Jetman! Just what is he after!?

Episode 29: Abare Seven Change New Combination – 9/11
The former AbareBlue of AbaRanger, Yukito Sanjou (Shou Tomita), appears with his wife and secretary, Emiri Sanjou (Michi Nishijima), the self-proclaimed “former AbarePink.” Ahim transforms seven times, could one of these changes be….AbarePink?!!

Action Commander Daiyaru appears. This episode was also noted to feature Ahim and Gai pretending to be a couple. This is also believed to be the episode where they will fully unlock Abaranger‘s Grand Power to form GoJyuGo-KaiOh.

Episode 30: The Friend’s Soul – 9/18
Liveman’s former Yellow, Joh Ohara (Kazuhiko Nishimura), appears before Joe, who has acquired Barizorg’s blueprints. Together, they head for Academia to try to find a way to turn Barizorg back into a human!

Great Scientist Zaien will be this episode’s villain.

Episode 31: N/A – 9/25
OhRanger’s former OhRed, Gorou Hoshino (Masaru Shishido), tries to get in contact with Basco, while OhPink, Momo Maruo (Tamao Satou), gets in contact with Gokaiger!?

So, to sum up the summaries, we’ve got tribute episodes for: Jetman, Abaranger, Liveman, and Ohranger. And I thought my schedule was going to be busy next month.

Go-Kaiger Episode Summaries: Wings and Happiness. Sounds like an All-You-Can-Eat Wing Buffet! :P

Looks like September’s going to be a busy month for the Go-Kaigers, we already have confirmation for three tribute episodes next month, the first of which will be the Jetman tribute episode. While we don’t have episode summaries for all of these episodes yet, we do have the first two episodes for the month of September. So let’s see what going on next month!

Episode 28: Wings are Eternal
An Action Commander by the name of Kiaido shows up to try and collect the bounty on the Gokaiger as they begin their search for the Jetman. Marvelous gets beaten by Kiaido and in his retreat runs across a strange man called Gai, otherwise known as a former member of the Jetman.

Episode 29: N/A – 09/11
Action Commander D’ailleurs is the threat this time. As D’ailleurs can feed off of the energy created by happiness, Ahim and Gai attempt to lure him out by pretending to be a couple madly in love with each other.

Alright, other than the ones seen here, it is rumored that the Abaranger and Liveman tribute episodes will also be shown next month, so a very busy time is coming for our favorite pirates. Will they be able to handle it? Probably, but we’ll be sure to watch and make sure. 😉

Black Condor has returned!

This is a leaked scan of Yuuki Gai (Black Condor of Jetman), shown here with a mobirate(?), which official confirms that he will appear in the Jetman tribute episode sometime in September. The actor, Wakamatsu Toshihide, confirmed this several weeks ago from his blog.

He is among a growing list of confirmed returning actors, which includes Nishimura Kazuhiko (Ohara Jo/Yellow Lion of Liveman), and according to some rumors, both AbareBlue and AbareYellow!

Go-KaiSilver revealed!: Who the heck is this Gai?

It’s official, Go-KaiSilver has been revealed! With regular pictures and everything! 🙂

Yes, this is Go-KaiSilver in his Gold form, with the special AnchorKey he uses to change into this form. And we can officially say that the character Gai Ikari (Once again, I’m guessing it’s Guy Ikari) will be Go-KaiSilver.

It seems that, like a lot of us, Gai is a human who has loved Super Sentai his entire life (in case you’re wondering, I mean that he is from Earth, wha a twist!). One day, he save a girl from a car accident, saving her life but getting badly injured himself. He passes out and meets AbareKiller (as Mikito), DragonRanger, and TimeFire in a dream. They were so impressed by his heroism that they consider him worthy of becoming the sixth Go-Kaiger and give him the Go-KaiCellular and the Sixth RangerKeys, to which he is very excited to recieve. He joins the pirate gang so that he can fight Zangyack and bring peace back to Earth.

Well, he may still be a couple of episodes away, but we’re all still super excited about it. And he’s already a history maker. For one, he is probably the first senshi to have two standard forms from the beginning, and his personal weapon, Go-KaiSpear, takes the multi-weapon concept to another level. And of course, let’s not forget about his personal robo, Go-JyuJin.

Go-JyuJin has three different forms: Go-JyuDrill, Go-JyuRex, and it’s final robo mode. In it’s final robo form, the drill acts as it’s left arm, and the Tyrrano head acts as it right arm. Very similar to AbareMax, but the head and tranformation makes it look more like V-Rex Robo. And it’s rumored that it will be able to swap arms with Go-KaiOh, but no word on any gattai between the two. Is it just me, or does this guy just seem to work in threes?

The main rumor is that he will pop up in Ep.17, and that it will be a tribute episode to either Zyuranger or Timeranger. More should be revealed as we get closer to the date.

-M.C., the Quantum Twin

BTW, the week after Go-KaiSilver premieres, there won’t be any new episodes of either Go-Kaiger or Kamen Rider OOO, there is a scheduled break then.

UPDATE: (5/24/11) More Go-KaiSilver scans have been leaked, let’s take a look.

Ooh, you can see the actual Go-KaiCellular in this one! And his personal RangerKey, too!

And this is Go-JyuJin in Robo mode. You like this one any better, PaladinZeo? ‘Cuz I think it looks badass myself.

And this is Go-JyuJin in Go-JyuDrill and Go-JyuRex mode. And probably the only pic I’ve seen so far of Go-KaiSilver in his standard form. Seriously, go look at the other pictures, there almost all of him in Gold Form.

That’s it for now, if any more pop up, you know what to do.

UPDATE: (5/25/11) Hey, nothing else has really popped up, but I just forgot to mention that episode 17, the one Go-KaiSilver will premiere on, will be a tribute episode for three Sentai series. It will be a tribute to Zyuranger, Timeranger, and Abaranger. And this is expressed in the different modes that Go-JyuJin goes through: the Drill mode represents Timeranger‘s grand power, Rex mode represents Zyuranger‘s grand power, and the Robo mode will represent Abaranger‘s grand power. They’re taking out three birds with one stone.

Upcoming Go-Kaiger Episode Info: A traitor and his space monkey.

Hey there everyone. That’s right, I’m actually posting something on a Sunday that’s relevant to current tokusatsu series. And It’s all about the next episode of Go-Kaiger. This time, we take a look at Basco da Jorokia (played by Hosogai Kei), both his past with Marvelous and what’s going to happen in episode 15. Let’s make this showy!

This is Basco and his space monkey Sari. They show up in the episode as privateers for Zangyack aboard his own ship called the Free Joker. And apparently, he and Marvelous have a shared past. Both Basco and Marvelous use to be part of AkaRed’s pirate crew. So that officially proves that AkaRed was in the second episode and that he gave Marvelous the RangerKeys. And apparently Marvelous isn’t the only one with RangerKeys.

Basco has a trumpet-like device that allows him to summon past senshi through their RangerKeys, and he has full control over them. As you can see, he uses it to first summon DekaBreak, Shurikenger, TimeFire, DragonRanger, and KingRanger. So that opens up a whole lot of questions. Like how did he get these Sixth RangerKeys? How many more does he have? Does Go-KaiSilver have his own RangerKeys, or is he going to have to take them from Basco? I don’t know, so we’ll just move onto other stuff we know about Basco.

This is Rikkidroid, his own personal giant robot weapon thing, in his blue form called “Wateru-kun”. It’s summoned from Sari’s chest, and apparently has multiple forms.

Now we do know a bit more about his past then I’ve already revealed. For one, it seems that he betrayed AkaRed and Marvelous so that he could join Zangyack as a privateer. In fact, he was the one behind the Red Pirates downfall (that’s what AkaRed called his crew). So basically, the scene where Marvelous is running across a beam trying to avoid capture, and then AkaRed comes in and saves him, giving Marvelous the RangerKeys and then thowing himself into the fray, all of it was because of Basco’s betrayal.

And of course, when any new, possibly permanent character shows up, there are a crop of new rumors popping up. Not just about him, but about upcoming episodes, too. For instance: 1) the next tribute episode will be for Abaranger, and it will also be another two-parter (what would be a better way to get ready for the Abaranger episode than to head over to henshinGARB and get yourself an “Abare Guts!” T-shirt or buttons!), 2) in this two parter, Go-KaiSilver will formally appear, and now it’s been confirmed that his name is Ikari Gai (Ikari meaning “wrath”, and his name is probably Guy Ikari), and 3) Tanaka Koutarou will reprise his role AbareKiller for the episode (don’t ask me how he came back from hell again, but supposedly he does). Anyway thats all for the rumors, I’m just going to post a bunch of pictures now.

So let’s see what happen’s next week!

More stuff Saban hid in the closet: Zord designs for unfilmed Zyu3 project!

Hey everybody, I was just poking around looking for actual news to put on the blog (this has been a very slow week for toku news, but for anyone in regular news, they can hardly keep up) when I stumbled across this pic from the Henshin Justice Unlimited forums:

These were zord designs for MMPR’s later seasons designed by the actual Toei sentai mecha designers. The stroy behind this is that it was either designed for the Zyu2 footage, but they settled on the Dairanger footage instead, or, and for some reason I find this more likely, it was designed for their third season, the never-filmed Zyu3, as a way to replace the Dairanger mecha/Thunderzords with zords that better reflected their powers and costumes. If you look at these designs, you can see the overwhelming similarities and drastic differences between these and the original Zyuranger mecha/Dinozords. The design is much more stream-lined, much smoother and cleaner looking, and yet they stil retain the same look and feel of the original, and it looks like they combine the same way too. And it seems to have features that other mecha would use later, like the built-in bow or the drill fist. It may be possible that they went back to these designs when they started work on Abaranger, because there are just too many similarities here for them not to have used these. And as proof that they made this for Saban and Power Rangers (other than the big bold letters on top that say “POWER RANGERS”) is that they incorporated the lightning bolt logo into the design, and they included an updated version of the Tigerzord. Not only does it form it’s own separate robo like the original Tigerzord, it can also combine with the Dinozords, and the Type A formation uses the face from Dragon Megazord. In fact, this version of the Tigerzord borrows a lot from the Dragon Zord. And, at least for the Type B version, the Tigerzord could act as a cannon weapon for the main Megazord.

You know the more I look over this, the more I can’t help but notice things that would go into later mecha designs. Other than Abaranger, I can see design elemants for Hurricanger, Gaoranger, Gingaman, I think that some of it might have even made it over into Kakuranger. These designs, these concepts are just way ahead of their time compared to other mecha designs from around that time. Don’t get me wrong, if they had made, it probably wouldn’t have looked a thing like this, but it still looks like a mecha you would have seen this decade.

Picture comes from the Super Sentai Robot Artbook.

Go-KaiSilver Debut: Meet the newest member of the crew.

The sixth senshi for Go-Kaiger has been confirmed (sorry I’m a day late, I got trapped in the Tokuverse, I’ll tell you later). This sixth senshi will be Go-kaiSilver. Here are some pics:

Go-KaiSilver will basically be able to change into any of the past major sixth rangers. At the moment, these include (in sequential order) Dragon Ranger, Kiba Ranger, King Ranger, MegaSilver, TimeFire, GaoSilver, Shurikenger, AbareKiller, DekaBreak, MagiShine, BoukenSilver, Go-onGold and Go-onSilver, ShinkenGold, and GoseiKnight. He can change into any of these past senshi using his Go-KaiCellular, a device very similar to the Mobirates, but looks and works differently. Pic here:

When Go-KaiSilver changes, he places a variation of his RangerKey into the Go-KaiCellular, pushes the Go-KaiSilver icon on the number pad, and hit s button on top of the device, where an anchor-shaped scanner reads the figure and changes him into Go-KaiSilver. The device also comes with an anchor shaped key that inserted into the bottom that allows him to change into Go-KaiSilver Gold Form.

While no one really knows if this second form will give him any extra abilities, it does look cool. In gold form, he will have special armor that includes a chest plate decorated with the helmets of the previous sixth senshi he can change into, and his helmet design changes as well. You can almost make out the kanji for gold in the visor design.

So, first impressions. In his standard silver form, his appearance is very reminiscent of BoukenSilver, and not just because their both silver, either. Because all of the Go-Kaiger have gold inlay decorating their costumes, his costume doesn’t seem that different from the others. The only real difference seems to be in the design of the helmet, the cuffs, and the collar and seams of the “jacket”. Not to mention the fact that his visor is a gold color instead of the standard black. In his special gold form, his appearance is like a cross between Kamen Rider Decade’s Complete Form and Zuban from Boukenger. A lot of people are surprised to see this extra form, but I think it’s fitting. Between these two forms, his appearance covers the two main types of sixth senshi: the kind that have a slightly altered outfit, and the kind that have an armored, highly decorated outfit. Between the differences in his outfit and the anchor motif, this makes me wonder whether this is supposed to be a pirate character or not. I’m almost getting a sailor vibe from him.

A number of people have voiced questions and complaints over the choices of the sixth senshi. The main ones are that Mask X-1, who is the first official sixth senshi despite a one episode appearence, wasn’t included, neither was Bull Black or DekaMaster. And some people think that GoseiKnight shouldn’t have been included because he technically isn’t a normal senshi, although I think he should be, as much time as he’s spent fighting with the Goseiger, and the fact that he has a name that actually has a Goseiger title, and not some off-the-wall name. Plus, there are a host of other senshi that weren’t included as sixth senshi, and a number of non-sentai and non-senshi helpers that haven’t even been acknowledged, so there’s a very, VERY slight chance that there could be either a seventh senshi or some kind of special helper that will take the place of these extra senshi. My only concern is why the buttons for Go-onGold and Go-onSilver are the same button? Does he magically split and change into Go-on Wings?(It would be so awesome if he did) Seriously, what are they going to do about that?

And as for the Go-KaiCellular, it’s a little unconventional. Instead of the staple flip phone design that’s been in use since the first cell phone changer, they went with a smartphone-esqe design. I would compare it to a Nokia phone, but it has a much wider “screen”, kind of like the Droid Pro. I’ll admit though, while the concept is unique, I’m not fond of the button design. Because it has all of the senshi he can change into on the buttons, and doesn’t use the same RangerKey system the others do, he’s very limited to the number of senshi he can change into. Overall, I like the phone, and the concept.

I hope the character behind the mask is just as impressive as the costume, otherwise I will be beyond disappointed. Quite frankly, if they make him into that strong, mysterious silent type, and not some flamboyant, over-the top character, then I’m just going to have a very long talk with the writers, producers and directors at Toei. And while I’m there, I may just have to bring up the subject of net neutrality and fair use. I honestly can’t think of anyone with the gall to upload any upcoming episodes of the series onto YouTube. Somebody get on that right now!

UPDATE: (2/25/11) Just found a pic of his main weapon, Go-KaiSpear.

It has three modes, a trident mode, a blaster mode, and a special anchor-spear mode that he uses in his Gold Form. It looks like it will also come with the Dragon Ranger Key (Zyuranger/MMPR Green Ranger). Let’s keep an eye out for this!

UPDATE: (3/7/11) Found this pic just now, seems they will release sixth ranger toys with the Go-KaiSilver stuff.

And if you’ll notice, they are going to release ShinkenOh and Daizyujin/MMPR Megazord. So can’t wait for that, even if I probably won’t buy it.
