Wada Keiichi Comparison video: He’s definitely still got it!

Well, if we can take anything away from the latest episode of Go-Kaiger, it’s that Wada Keiichi is still kick-ass! He’s just as skilled, and overall just as AWESOME as he was in his Dairanger days. Not convinced? Then why don’t you take a look at this comparison video and judge for yourself:

See it now? Heck, he’s probably better now than he was 18 years ago (holy crap, was it really that long ago?! 0.o).

Go-Kaiger Ep.33 Raw: Suits? We don’t need no stinkin’ suits!

Well, here it is, the actual episode! IN this episode, which also happens to be the Dairanger tribute episode, Gai loses his Go-KaiCellular during a fight (eaten by this week’s Action Commander) and has doubts about whether or not he can truly¬†consider himself a hero, that is, until he meets Tenkasei Ryo, the former Ryu Ranger of Dairanger, who remonds him of what it really means to be a hero. Check out the episode below:

Wow, it’s been a while since we’ve seen a really good out-of-suit fight. Of course, it does help to have someone who¬†was in one of the best out-of-suit fights in all of tokusatsu be in the scene too. ūüėČ

Go-Kaiger Dairanger Tribute Episode: Five-Star Pirates!

Looks like we’ve got some new info on the upcoming Dairanger tribute episode (Ep.33), and it looks like Gai’s back in the spotlight. Here’s the summary:

Episode 33: Hero daaaaa!!!! – 10/09
While at the super market, Luka and Gai meet the monster Bacula who is eating everything. Gai’s GokaiCellular ends up being eaten as well. Feeling down about what happened Gai is confronted by a single man…

Spoiler Alert! That mysterious person will be one of the Dairangers. ūüėõ

The real question is, which one will it be? Will it be Tenkasei Ryo, a.k.a. Ryu Ranger? Or will it be another Dairanger?

And it also looks like this is going to be an episode with a lot of out-of-suit action, which is rarely seen anymore nowadays. Should be exciting!

Go-Kaiger Magazine Spoilers: Tenkasei! Mahha Zenkai!

Well, somebody got an early look at the upcoming issue of Telebikun magazine, and they managed to spread a number of spoilers about upcoming episodes of Go-Kaiger, mostly dealing with the Dairanger and Go-Onger tribute episodes. Check them out below:

  • There’s a picture of the 5 Gokaigers holding up the Go-KaiGalleon Buster on their shoulders and a waist up shot of Basco with text that says, “Basco stole 3 Great Powers from the past warriors.”
  • Sousuke Esumi aka Go-OnRed and RyŇć of the Heavenly Fire Star aka Ryu Ranger are mentioned in the magazine. Confirming that their tribute episodes will happen this October.
  • An image of Kanzen GokaiOh is featured in a magazine spread and on the bottom right of the bottom-right is Go-OnRed and GokaiRed who says, “Now that’s one hell of a treasure!”
  • Engine Machalcon is introduced in the remaining area of the spread. There is a small arrow that points to Go-On GokaiOh as well as another pointing to Kanzen GokaiOh.
  • There is a next issue preview that says, “Even more of the awesome past warriors will show up! and then…!!” A silhouette of a monster-looking character is shown in the page which resembles Burajira (Man, that guy just¬†won’t quit).

Along with these new spoilers, Hamura Ei, who played Shoji/TenmaRanger in Dairanger also tweeted yesterday that “very soon, HE will be back!” and that he would explain what that means¬†sometime¬†today. So I would expect an update on this soon.

More stuff Saban hid in the closet: Zord designs for unfilmed Zyu3 project!

Hey everybody, I was just poking around looking for actual news to put on the blog (this has been a very slow week for toku news, but for anyone in regular news, they can hardly keep up) when I stumbled across this pic from the Henshin Justice Unlimited forums:

These were zord designs for MMPR’s later seasons designed by the actual Toei sentai mecha designers. The stroy behind this is that it was either designed for the Zyu2 footage, but they settled on the Dairanger footage instead, or, and for some reason I find this more likely, it was¬†designed for their third season, the¬†never-filmed Zyu3,¬†as a way to replace the Dairanger mecha/Thunderzords with zords that¬†better reflected their powers and costumes. If you look at these designs, you can see the overwhelming similarities and drastic differences between these and the original Zyuranger mecha/Dinozords. The design is much more stream-lined, much smoother and cleaner looking, and yet they stil retain the same look and feel of the original, and it looks like they combine the same way too. And it seems to have features that other mecha would use later, like the built-in bow or the drill fist. It may be possible that they went back to these designs when they started work on Abaranger, because there are just¬†too many similarities here for them not to have used these. And as proof that they made this for Saban and Power Rangers (other than the big bold letters on top that say “POWER RANGERS”) is that they incorporated the lightning bolt logo into the design, and they included an updated version of the Tigerzord. Not only does it form it’s own separate robo like the original Tigerzord, it can also combine with the Dinozords, and the Type A formation uses the face from Dragon Megazord. In fact, this version of the Tigerzord borrows a lot from the Dragon Zord. And, at least for the Type B version, the Tigerzord could act as a cannon weapon for the main Megazord.

You know the more I look over this, the more I can’t help but notice things that would go into later mecha designs. Other than Abaranger, I can see design elemants for Hurricanger, Gaoranger, Gingaman, I think that some of it might have even made it over into Kakuranger. These designs, these concepts are just way ahead of their time compared to other mecha designs from around that time. Don’t get me wrong, if they had made, it probably wouldn’t have looked a thing like this, but it still looks like a mecha you would have seen this decade.

Picture comes from the Super Sentai Robot Artbook.
