New S.H. FiguArts figures for 2011-2012: Or, how Bandai is truly, truly evil.

So look at what the experts in the art of wallet draining have come out with now, a new batch of S.H. FiguArts figures!

These new pics come from the Tamashii Festival 2011, showcasing Bandai’s and Tamashii Nation’s new line of S.H. FiguArts figures. First up was the complete S.H. FiguArts Kaizoku Sentai Go-Kaiger! That’s right, all five Go-Kaigers. Go-KaiRed will be released this September, with Go-KaiBlue and Go-KaiGreen coming out in October, though no word on the release date for Go-KaiYellow or Go-KaiPink. Each figure will come with different parts to build the full brifge to the Go-KaiGalleon, and each will cost 3500 yen.

Also up are the S.H. FiguArt Tiger & Bunny collection. I don’t know a whole lot about the new anime, so I’ll let GekiDan of Jefusion explain:

To be released in September and October respectively, are SH FiguArts Wild Tiger and Barnaby Brooks Jr. for 4500 yen each. Future releases include SH FiguArts Rock Bison, Sky High, Fire Emblem, Lightning Kid, Blue Rose and Origami Cyclone; FiguArts Zero Kotetsu Kaburagi and Barnaby Brooks Jr.; and SH FiguArts version of their motorbikes.

Thanks GekiDan. And now onto some stuff I’m a bit more familiar with:

I haven’t just nerdgasmed, I’ve toku-gasmed!

Anyway, we have S.H.FiguArt figures for (left-right, top-bottom): Kamen Rider V3, Kamen Rider Eternal and Eternal Red Flare, Kamen Rider Den-O Climax form, Kamen Rider Birth Birthday form, Kamen Rider OOO TaJaBata combo, Lost Ankh with BuraKaWani combo, ShinkenRed and ShinkenRed Kaoru, GoseiKnight, Fuwa Juzo, Kamen Riders Ouja and Zolda, Vegeta, and Mirror Knight from the Ultraman Zero movies. Here are a few close ups:

Wait, is that Mezool and Gamel in the back?

I’ll admit, this one is a bit of a surprise to me, not that they did it, but that they skipped over everyone else (except for GoseiRed).

Definitely not surprised by this one!

WIN!

But, it wasn’t exclusively S.H. FiguArts at Tamashii Festival, we also found out about this gem!:

Yes, it’s the Super Robot Chogokin Dekaranger Robo! The articulated, diecast model of the main mecha for Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger. It comes with (as far as we know) the Signal Cannon and Judgement Sword. Price and release date to be announced.

That’s it so far from the Tamashii Festival, I’m sure there’s still plenty more bank-account-draining stuff to come, so stay keep checking back.

Go-Kaiger 199 Movie and Upcoming episodes: Pics and Rumors Galore!

Hey, it’s almost the end of the month, so it’s last chance to get in this month’s new scans, announcements, and rumors before May and the next round of stuff starts pelting people in the head. So let’s get in what we still can!

The official movie poster for the Go-Kaiger Goseiger Super Sentai 199 Heroes movie (coming June 11th) and as you can see, there’s going to be just a boat-load of stuff in the movie. As the title says, there are going to be 199 past heroes in the movie, and it looks like everybody and their mama has been brought back to be in this movie. Between a mix of past actors returning and reprising their roles, a bunch of evil clones, and some of the biggest baddies to ever go up against a Sentai back from hell, this promises to be one big mindblowing, sensory-overloading blockbuster smash hit! And as more news comes out for this, more and more people seem to be coming out of the wood works and making an appearence in this film.

Of them is AkaRed! Knew he wasn’t dead! I wonder if this will confirm my theory that the AkaRed that was seen in Marvelous’ past was really someone else using a Mobirate with an AkaRed Ranger Key? Any way, he isn’t the only one back. Tsutomu Isobe (WolzardFire), Tetsu Inada (DekaMaster), Hochu Otsuka (Signalman), and Odawa Teruaki (NinjaRed/Hyuuga) have been confirmed as voiceover roles in the movie. And the list for the cast reprising their acting roles has just been expanded.

Makoto Naoya returns as Kaijo Tsuyoshi/Akaranger, Miyauchi Hiroshi as Banba Sokichi/Big One, Ohba Kenji as Oume Daigoro/DenjiBlue, Haruta Jyunichi as Kuroda Kanpei/GoggleBlack, Hagiwara Sayoko as Tachibana Rei/DynaPink, Sakamoto Ryosuke as Shiro Go/Red One, Satou Kenta as Hono Riki/RedTurbo, Wada Kenichi as Ryo/Ryu Ranger, and Kikuchi Mika as Umeko/DekaPink. And I’m pretty sure the total list is right there in the corner, but unfortunatly I can’t read Japanese. I can only guess that that’s the whole list. Anyway, here are some more movie screenshots.

And so far that’s what I have for the movie. Now let’s look at some stuff coming up in the series!

Yes, this is what ShinkenGo-KaiOh looks like, and it is sweet! That should be appearing in the upcoming episode, along with Shiba Kaoru fighting Joe for the ShinkenRed Key. And we get a look into Joe’s past and an in-depth look at the person who trained him.

Above is the person that trained Joe, named Sid, and turns out over the next couple of weeks that he is now Barizog. Joe will fight him in ep.12 trying to bring his memory back. It’s also rumored that he will be Go-KaiSilver. And this episode will also show Joe and Marvelous meeting and fighting together for the first time.

And that’s everything… no, wait, I forgot something… oh, yeah that’s right. It was THIS:

BOOM! That’s right! Zyuranger in Episode 11! That (hopefully) means that the Zyuranger tribute episode will be up soon. But it looks like the Carranger Tribute will be next, so who know’s how long we’ll have to wait for the Zyuranger tribute. However, in episode 14, it looks like an old friend of Marvelous mysteriously shows up, so who knows, could be a trap, could be Go-KaiSilver. Let’s watch and find out!

UPDATE: (4/29/11) Here we go, one last minute pic for the month of April.

Hopefully next month we’ll be able to see an actual, non-editted photo of this guy.

Go-Kaiger: What’s going on here?

So far, the season’s barely started and so much has already just exploded out of the series. So far, we’ve already learned a lot about where the story has been and where the story is going. Now, you’re probably wondering “How can you possibly know where the story is going to go beyond the next episode?”. Well, first off, stop interrupting me with all these silly questions and just listen; second, at this point, unless you just started watching the series, we all know the Super Sentai series story formula by this point. Everything you need to know generally about the series is usually revealed within the first 3-7 episodes. Within that, we can establish a general pattern for the overall story. Sure, they through in a few twists throughout the series to keep it interesting, but their not going to deviate too far from the formula. So let’s see what we can gather from what we know so far.

Let’s start with the first episode. From that we can gather three things: 1) In the very beginning, all the past sentai lost their powers defending the Earth in the Legendary War, so they probably won’t play an active role in future episodes, at least not until the last few episodes, or one of the movies. 2) From both the intro, and their own revealed background, they opposed Zangyack in the past, and that Zangyack destroyed and colonized their home world, so that means at some point they’re going to willingly and openly fight Zangyack at some point. And 3) They don’t see themselves as heroes, their identity as pirates are first and foremost to them, so they aren’t going to be embracing the idea that they are heroes for a while (even though their name actually means Heroic Rangers). Also, they apparently don’t have their own personal weapons, something that’s been part of the series since Goranger.

Now let’s take a look at the second episode (and some screenshots). First, I actually want to talk about Navi, the robotic parrot that plays two roles. It seems that Navi is both the navigator (duh) and the Go-Kaigers’ personal fortune teller. In the beginning of the episode, he predicted that they would need to find a man wearing black. While they didn’t find him then, he did show up at the end of the episode, but I’ll get to that later. So it seems that they are going to turn to Navi from time to time to get predictions of the future. Now if he could also grow and become a robo/mech then he’d have it made.

But enough about the bird, let’s talk about the part that EVERYONE is talking about. The flashback scene with AkaRed. For those of you who haven’t seen it, basically, the kid from the previews took the ShinkenRed RangerKey from Captain Marvelous, Marvelous went after him, found him, the kid said that he took it because he didn’t want anyone else to be killed like his grandfather was during the Legendary War protecting him, and that caused Marvelous to have a flashback to when he was (I guess) on his world running from Zangyack forces. While he’s trying to fight off the Gomin and get away from them, one of the Surgomin (the ones with the big arms and the blue heads) was about to finish him off when AkaRed jumped in and protected him.

And then he tells Marvelous that their journey together is ending, and that Marvelous needs to continue in his place and find the greatest treasure in the universe, giving him the chest with the Ranger Keys in it. (If you look closely, you can see that the logo on his chest has been changed to the 35th anniversary logo, and I think they also redesigned his belt buckle too)

Afterwards he runs towards the Gomins and fought them in a giant fiery explosion. But there’s something amiss here. First off, take a look at this photo.

Now, just because he’s using a Go-Kaiger weapon may not necessarily mean anything. But he also had the chest and Navi, and in the last shot in this scene, Marvelous is calling out to him in that cheesy dramatic “oh no, he’s just run straight to his doom” sort of way, but you don’t actually hear him, and it almost looks like he’s mouthing the word “Captain”. This makes me wonder if this is AkaRed at all, and not some former captain of the Go-Kaiger crew. I mean, how likely would it be that there could be an AkaRed RangerKey? And if you pay attention to the way Marvelous looks and acts in this scene, he’s not very captian-like. So that begs the question, where did they get the RangerKeys in the first place? Is that AkaRed who brought gave Marvelous the Go-Kaiger powers, or is it someone else who just happened to have the RangerKeys? And if this is someone else, how did he get the RangerKeys, and did he know about Earth and Super Sentai? I guess we’ll have to keep watching and see. While it would be cool, and sem-believable if it was AkaRed, it would also suck, because that means they just killed him off. So, I’m personally going to hope that it’s someone else, so that AkaRed could still be alive on Earth.

So, we’ve seen what we learned about AkaRed in relation to this series, let’s talk about the fact that anyone can use the Mobirates and RangerKeys to become any past senshi. ANYONE CAN USE THE MOBIRATES AND RANGERKEYS TO BECOME ANY PAST SENSHI. How awesome is that?! I mean you pull out the key for the senshi you want to henshin into, flip open the mobirate, insert the key, twist, and just like that, you’re that senshi. Take the scene where Zangyack attacks. Marvelous gives his mobirate to the kid that took the RangerKey, and let him change into ShinkenRed and fight Zangyack.

(The description below says Shinkenger) And surprisingly, the kid manages to hold his own for a minute, at least against the Gomin. He was fine until he took a swing at Bon Gun (a.k.a. monster-of-the-week), when this happened.

He was also thrown into the building in the background, but he was ok. He also learned a lesson about how serious and dangerous fighting evil was, but who cares about that. The Go-Kaiger learned from this kid how precious the Earth was, but that was going to happen anyway. The real moral of the story is that anyone could use the Go-Kaiger’s powers, a major change from past series where only certain people could be Sentai senshi and use those powers. So this could be something that happens again, though I doubt it will happen twice the same way.

Because of this openness, because of this level of flexibility, that’s what allows them to continually change into other senshi and not be restricted by color or gender. Take these  shots from their fight scene.

Okay, so that’s the same color scheme, but look at these other shots.

(I added the third pic so that you could see which senshi turned into which) After fighting as Dekaranger, they change into Hurricanger and right there and then, we see the first real instance of gender/color swapping revealed before now. Then they finish off Bon Gun by changing into various red senshi from different, nonsequential series. I wish I had pics from the finisher they used on him, it was really cool. They trapped him in a fire vortex using GoseiRed’s and MagiRed’s power, then Go-KaiBlue and Go-KaiPink pounded him as GaoRed and GekiRed respectively, and then Go-KaiRed dealt him a final slash as ShinkenRed, and then he blew up.

So, what we can get from this and the previous episode is that they will go through three different transformations in each episode, not including their initial transformation into Go-Kaiger. And of course, now they’ve brought out Go-KaiOh, so now that’s been brought in, and the formula is being adhered to.

And something tells me that they will be sailing off into the sunset at the end of almost all the episodes.

But, there seems, Go-Kaiger will have another special aspect to the series, because this man popped up at the end of the episode.

For those of you who may or may not know, this is Hashimoto Atsushi, he played Ozu Kai a.k.a. MagiRed in Magiranger and will appear in the next episode. For some reason he’s wearing a black robe with the Magiranger emblem on the chest (he also did something very odd with his hair). Not sure what exactly his role will be, but I’m assuming from the preview that he will give them MagiDragon, as there is a scene with Go-KaiOh and it suddenly has wings and a dragon head on its chest. Here are some pics from it (sorry, no Go-KaiOh).

(In the smaller pics, Go-KaiBlue is Big One and AbareBlack, Go-KaiYellow is GaoWhite and NinjaBlack, and Go-KaiPink is White Swan and Go-onBlack) Those are the three transformations, sorry I don’t have any of Go-KaiOh combined with MagiDragon. I can say that the pattern for this show has been established. I can also say though, that this is going to be a very unpredictable series. You never know what a pirate is going to pull out of his bootie! Long live bad pirate puns!

UPDATE: (3/1/11) Well, new episode, new information. For anyone that saw the third episode, we saw that during the episode, Kai/MagiRed had tested Marvelous and Doc, well Doc more than Marvelous, and that allowed them to fully access the Magiranger powers, including of course MagiDragon. It turns out that a.) Kai had lost, not only his sentai powers, but his ability to use magic, and b.) that when a previous character comes on, they will test Go-Kaiger in some manner, so that they learn about the real source of their particular powers, such as courage for Magiranger, and that when they pass that test, they will have full access to those powers, and may get a mecha/zord that they then can use with Go-KaiOh. In fact, their are going to be a number of appearences of past sentai senshi within the next few episodes. This includes encounters with DekaRed and GekiRed. For now, here are some picks from the most recent episode.

And here are some from episode 4. Looks like it will be a Joe/Go-KaiBlue focused episode.

New posts coming soon.

Go-KaiSilver Debut: Meet the newest member of the crew.

The sixth senshi for Go-Kaiger has been confirmed (sorry I’m a day late, I got trapped in the Tokuverse, I’ll tell you later). This sixth senshi will be Go-kaiSilver. Here are some pics:

Go-KaiSilver will basically be able to change into any of the past major sixth rangers. At the moment, these include (in sequential order) Dragon Ranger, Kiba Ranger, King Ranger, MegaSilver, TimeFire, GaoSilver, Shurikenger, AbareKiller, DekaBreak, MagiShine, BoukenSilver, Go-onGold and Go-onSilver, ShinkenGold, and GoseiKnight. He can change into any of these past senshi using his Go-KaiCellular, a device very similar to the Mobirates, but looks and works differently. Pic here:

When Go-KaiSilver changes, he places a variation of his RangerKey into the Go-KaiCellular, pushes the Go-KaiSilver icon on the number pad, and hit s button on top of the device, where an anchor-shaped scanner reads the figure and changes him into Go-KaiSilver. The device also comes with an anchor shaped key that inserted into the bottom that allows him to change into Go-KaiSilver Gold Form.

While no one really knows if this second form will give him any extra abilities, it does look cool. In gold form, he will have special armor that includes a chest plate decorated with the helmets of the previous sixth senshi he can change into, and his helmet design changes as well. You can almost make out the kanji for gold in the visor design.

So, first impressions. In his standard silver form, his appearance is very reminiscent of BoukenSilver, and not just because their both silver, either. Because all of the Go-Kaiger have gold inlay decorating their costumes, his costume doesn’t seem that different from the others. The only real difference seems to be in the design of the helmet, the cuffs, and the collar and seams of the “jacket”. Not to mention the fact that his visor is a gold color instead of the standard black. In his special gold form, his appearance is like a cross between Kamen Rider Decade’s Complete Form and Zuban from Boukenger. A lot of people are surprised to see this extra form, but I think it’s fitting. Between these two forms, his appearance covers the two main types of sixth senshi: the kind that have a slightly altered outfit, and the kind that have an armored, highly decorated outfit. Between the differences in his outfit and the anchor motif, this makes me wonder whether this is supposed to be a pirate character or not. I’m almost getting a sailor vibe from him.

A number of people have voiced questions and complaints over the choices of the sixth senshi. The main ones are that Mask X-1, who is the first official sixth senshi despite a one episode appearence, wasn’t included, neither was Bull Black or DekaMaster. And some people think that GoseiKnight shouldn’t have been included because he technically isn’t a normal senshi, although I think he should be, as much time as he’s spent fighting with the Goseiger, and the fact that he has a name that actually has a Goseiger title, and not some off-the-wall name. Plus, there are a host of other senshi that weren’t included as sixth senshi, and a number of non-sentai and non-senshi helpers that haven’t even been acknowledged, so there’s a very, VERY slight chance that there could be either a seventh senshi or some kind of special helper that will take the place of these extra senshi. My only concern is why the buttons for Go-onGold and Go-onSilver are the same button? Does he magically split and change into Go-on Wings?(It would be so awesome if he did) Seriously, what are they going to do about that?

And as for the Go-KaiCellular, it’s a little unconventional. Instead of the staple flip phone design that’s been in use since the first cell phone changer, they went with a smartphone-esqe design. I would compare it to a Nokia phone, but it has a much wider “screen”, kind of like the Droid Pro. I’ll admit though, while the concept is unique, I’m not fond of the button design. Because it has all of the senshi he can change into on the buttons, and doesn’t use the same RangerKey system the others do, he’s very limited to the number of senshi he can change into. Overall, I like the phone, and the concept.

I hope the character behind the mask is just as impressive as the costume, otherwise I will be beyond disappointed. Quite frankly, if they make him into that strong, mysterious silent type, and not some flamboyant, over-the top character, then I’m just going to have a very long talk with the writers, producers and directors at Toei. And while I’m there, I may just have to bring up the subject of net neutrality and fair use. I honestly can’t think of anyone with the gall to upload any upcoming episodes of the series onto YouTube. Somebody get on that right now!

-M.C., the quantum twin

UPDATE: (2/25/11) Just found a pic of his main weapon, Go-KaiSpear.

It has three modes, a trident mode, a blaster mode, and a special anchor-spear mode that he uses in his Gold Form. It looks like it will also come with the Dragon Ranger Key (Zyuranger/MMPR Green Ranger). Let’s keep an eye out for this!

UPDATE: (3/7/11) Found this pic just now, seems they will release sixth ranger toys with the Go-KaiSilver stuff.

And if you’ll notice, they are going to release ShinkenOh and Daizyujin/MMPR Megazord. So can’t wait for that, even if I probably won’t buy it.
